The Sound

Friday’s Child creates thoughtful, haunted Americana — music shaped by the lived experience of the formerly married couple, Evan and Krista deliver strong melodies and an intimate performance. A Friday’s Child set is intentionally paced and largely built around original material from their album Broken Home (vol. 1), stripped down. Their songs lean toward country, folk, and jazz influences, with moments of warmth and levity woven into an otherwise grounded, reflective set.

Instrumentation + Show Format

Friday’s Child performs as a duo in a flexible format suited to a range of rooms and bills.

The most expansive version of the show features:

  • Evan on electric and acoustic guitar, dobro, and pedal steel, with lead and backing vocals

  • Krista on acoustic guitar and piano, primarily lead vocal with backing vocals

For more intimate or pared-down settings, the duo performs with Evan on electric/acoustic guitar and Krista on acoustic guitar, sharing vocal duties while maintaining the same emotional depth and musical range.

Friday's Child

Friday’s Child is the potent musical union of singer-songwriter Krista Van Slingerland and multi-instrumentalist/engineer Evan Massey. The pair have been writing and performing together for seven years across multiple projects. Their bluegrass tune “Wildflower” was licensed for the feature film 115, directed by Dave Macon, in 2024.

In 2025, amidst their divorce, Krista and Evan recorded their first full-length album as Friday’s Child, raising $7,000 in 30 days via Kickstarter to fund the project. The duo’s debut single, “Fault Lines,” received Canadian radio airplay, and their appearance on the Kingston Live podcast (Episode #81)—exploring the origins of the project—became the show’s most-listened-to episode of 2025 on Spotify.

Friday’s Child delivers an intimate and powerful live Americana experience that hushes a room and connects deeply with audiences who value authenticity, lyrical depth, and musicianship. Building on the momentum of their full house show at The Broom Factory in Kingston, Ontario (July 2025), the duo is set to bring the music of Broken Home (Vol. 1) – debuting March 15 – to Southeastern Ontario this spring and summer.
